PJ Fleck took his turn at the podium Tuesday during B1G Media Days. The status of star running back Mohamed Ibrahim was among the first questions lobbed at Fleck after his opening remarks.

Ibrahim opened the 2021 season with an impressive showing against Ohio State. He rushed for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Buckeyes as the Gophers were fighting to pull off an upset.

Unfortunately, Ibrahim went down late in that game with a season-ending injury. Ibrahim eventually revealed he would be returning for one more season in 2022 as opposed to trying the NFL Draft coming off the injury.

Fortunately, Ibrahim is good to go Fleck said on Tuesday. The Minnesota head coach said the star running is at full strength and came back for 2022 to help the team.

“A guy who could’ve gone to the NFL after tearing his Achilles,” said Fleck. “He was primed for a huge season, decided to come back not only for himself but for his teammates…

“He did it to kind of put a different ending to what happened. He’s at full strength. He’s ready to roll.”

Ibrahim captured the B1G’s Running Back of the Year Award during the 2020 season before his injury to open 2021. It will be interesting to see what he’s able to produce in 2022.
