The B1G football season is returning, but it doesn’t sound like Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman will be doing the same. A report from the Pioneer Press suggests that his career with the Golden Gophers is over.

Bateman opted out of the 2020 football season on Aug. 4, a week before the league’s original postponement. It was unlikely that he would make the decision to return for another year at Minnesota, but head coach P.J. Fleck told Big Ten Network that he sent a text to the star receiver, which read “Are you sure?”

When the Pioneer Press inquired about Bateman’s interest in returning, a source replied “Can’t.”

Bateman was considered one of the top receivers in the conference, and the country, heading into the 2020 season. He finished his sophomore season in 2019 with 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns as the Gophers posted an 11-2 record, one of the best marks in program history.

So, even though the B1G football season is back, it appears Bateman will not. The Golden Gophers will have to find new weapons in the passing attack for the 2020 season.
