Report: Minnesota AD, highest paid coaches to take significant paycuts during 2021 fiscal year
In an effort to combat the monetary losses from the COVID-19 pandemic, a handful of coaches and members of Minnesota’s Athletics Department will take a significant paycut.
According to Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press, University of Minnesota Athletic Director Mark Coyle, as well as the five highest-paid coaches in the department, will take a 10 percent paycut through the first six months of the 2021 fiscal year. It will begin in July.
Those five coaches include:
- P.J. Fleck — Football
- Richard Pitino — Men’s Basketball
- Lindsay Whalen — Women’s Basketball
- Bob Motzko — Men’s Hockey
- Hugh McCutcheon — Volleyball
Minnesota is not the first university to take such measures, as Wisconsin recently announced a similar plan. Other head coaches and athletic directors across the country have taken similar measures, due to the pandemic.
