Richard Pitino is losing a member of his coaching staff.

On Wednesday, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reported that Minnesota assistant basketball coach Rob Jeter is expected to become the next head coach at Western Illinois. A day after Goodman tweeted out that Jeter was the primary target for the job, the deal was done.

Jeter, 50, has been on Pitino’s staff with the Golden Gophers for the last two years. This will be Jeter’s second job as a head coach, as he was previously the longtime head coach at Milwaukee, where he was in that position from 2005-16.

During his time at Milwaukee, Jeter led the program to two Horizon League conference tournament titles and a pair of regular season titles, as well. The Panthers made two NCAA appearances, one NIT appearance and one CBI appearance.

Jeter’s coaching record in 11 seasons at Milwaukee was 184-170.

Western Illinois is coming off a 5-21 season and head coach Billy Wright did not have his contract renewed by the university. The Leathernecks were 53-115 in six seasons under Wright.
