Report: Minnesota guard, former Vanderbilt player transferring again
Minnesota guard Payton Willis will reportedly be heading to a third college to finish his basketball career.
On Thursday, Evan Daniels of 247Sports reported that Willis plans to graduate and transfer from Minnesota this year. He spent two years with the Golden Gophers, but played just this past season, as he was forced to sit out the 2018-19 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules.

Willis was previously at Vanderbilt before transferring to Minnesota. As a graduate transfer, he’ll be immediately eligible for the 2020-21 season. It will be his final season in the college game.
Last year, Willis averaged 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The Golden Gophers finished the year 15-16.
The news of Willis’s decision to transfer out of Minnesota came shortly after it was reported that the Golden Gophers landed Brandon Johnson from the transfer portal. Johnson is a forward out of Western Michigan, who averaged more than 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Broncos this past year.
