New Minnesota head basketball coach Ben Johnson has added two members to his staff. Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported the news on Friday afternoon.
Minnesota has hired Dave Thorson and Jason Kemp to be on Johnson’s staff for the 2021-22 college basketball season. Both assistants will add plenty of experience to the Golden Gophers bench.

Thorson was previously the head coach at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis for 23 years before making a jump to the next level. He has been an assistant coach at Drake and Colorado State.
Kemp has made stops at multiple colleges in his coaching career. He’s had stops at William & Mary, Ohio, Toledo and North Dakota State at the Division I level.
Minnesota finished the 2020-21 season with a 14-15 record, missing the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. At the end of the year, the school terminated Richard Pitino and a week later hired Johnson to be the next leader of the program.
