Last season, Minnesota finished the year with a 15-16 record and won the first game of the B1G Tournament before the conference tournament was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. At best, the Gophers were competing for a spot in the NIT.
Head coach Richard Pitino will be returning to the sidelines for his eighth season in Minneapolis.
Mississippi State was 20-11 this season. The Bulldogs did not play a game in the SEC Tournament.
