A second Golden Gopher has decided to skip Minnesota’s Quick Lane Bowl game against Georgia Tech on Dec. 26.

Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press is reporting that linebacker Blake Cashman will not play in the Quick Lane Bowl this postseason, joining offensive lineman Donnell Greene. Last week, Greene made the decision to focus on his future in the NFL.

Cashman made a statement via his Instagram account.

“I’ve been putting this off for some time now, but after a lot of thought and discussions with people close to me, I have decided to forego the remainder of my eligibility,” Cashman wrote. “I’m so grateful for everything the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Football program, and Coach (P.J.) and his staff have done for me to help put me in the position I’m in today.”

Cashman played in all 12 games for the Gophers this season and led the team with 104 tackles. He also recorded 15 tackles for loss — fourth-highest total in the B1G — and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

In four seasons with Minnesota, Cashman totaled 183 tackles, 31 of which were for loss. He also had seven pass break-ups and two forced fumbles.

Cashman was an All-B1G second-team selection this fall.
