Tanner Morgan to miss White Out road trip vs. Penn State, per report
Tanner Morgan will reportedly miss Minnesota’s Week 8 road trip to Penn State due to injury.
According to Andy Greder with the Pioneer Press, Morgan will miss Week 8 despite going through early warmups with the team. Per Greder, Morgan is dealing with a concussion from Week 7 and will be unable to play during the visit to Happy Valley for Penn State’s White Out.
NEWS: #Gophers‘ Tanner Morgan will be OUT against Penn State on Saturday, the @PioneerPress has learned. The sixth-year quarterback (concussion) has gone through early warmups and might do so in pads, too, but won’t play vs. Nittany Lions in Happy Valley.https://t.co/b9F2q0ZrRL

Expected to start in Morgan’s place is Athan Kaliakmanis, a 4-star member of Minnesota’s 2021 recruiting class out of Antioch, Illinois. It would be the first career start for Kaliakmanis and in a particularly hostile — and loud — environment.
Update: #Gophers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis takes snap from elite center John Michael Schmitz and hands off to top running back Mo Ibrahim about 45 minutes until White Out kickoff vs. Penn State on Saturday. U turns to redshirt freshman for his first start. Big stage, kid.

We’ll see how this impacts the Week 8 matchup between the two sides.
