Minnesota’s 2021 recruiting class received another big commitment on Wednesday, this time from a defensive tackle out of Texas.

Three-star defensive lineman Albert Regis announced his commitment to Minnesota on Wednesday. He made his decision public with a tweet and became the 14th verbal pledge for P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers in the 2021 class.

Regis received more than a dozen offers during the recruiting process, including seven from Power Five programs. The defensive tackle picked Minnesota over Baylor, Illinois, Tennessee, TCU, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.

According to 247Sports, Regis is ranked No. 709 overall in the 2021 recruiting class. He’s listed as the No. 38 defensive tackle in the class and is considered one of the top 100 players out of the state of Texas. He’s the third player from the Lone Star State to commit to Minnesota.

Regis is a 6-foot-1, 295-pound defensive tackle who has a high motor and does a good job at locating the football. While he might be slightly undersized along the defensive line, 247Sports’ evaluation suggests he can be an impact player at the next level with some development.

In addition to playing along the defensive line, Regis also played tight end on the offensive side of the football.

Minnesota continues to piece together a strong recruiting class, owning the second-best in the B1G. Nationally, the Gophers rank No. 6 in the 2021 class.
