Two Gophers hit transfer portal following end of spring practice
Two Minnesota football players have decided to enter their names into the NCAA transfer portal. The news comes just a few days after the Golden Gophers closed out spring practice over the weekend.
Rivals.com reported on Monday that receiver and return man Brock Annexstad and linebacker Ben Wileman have both decided to explore their options outside the Twin Cities. Both players submitted a request before the May 1 deadline, meaning they’ll have eligibility for the 2022 season.
Annexstad spent five seasons with the Golden Gophers and had his most productive year in 2021. He appeared in 12 games last fall and had 71 return yards. The redshirt senior played in a total of 21 contests during his time at Minnesota.
Because of the COVID-19 waiver, Annexstad will still have one year of eligibility to use at his next destination.
Wileman is a redshirt sophomore linebacker who spent two seasons at Minnesota before deciding to enter the transfer portal. In his previous two years with the Gophers, he did not see any game action.
Minnesota ended the 2021 season with a 9-4 record. The Gophers closed out spring practice on Saturday with the annual spring game.
