Tyler Nubin, Minnesota DB, picks off rough pass from Nebraska QB Jeff Sims
Tyler Nubin had one of the highlights of the first half Thursday night in Minnesota’s opener against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Gopher defensive back did not waste any time establishing himself as a key playmaker in the contest, reeling in a big interception off of Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims just over 6 minutes into the second quarter.

Nubin comes into the 2023 season as a senior after finishing out the 2022 season with 55 combined tackles (37 solo), 3 passes defended, 4 interceptions and 1 forced fumble. Over his past 3 seasons with the Golden Gophers, he has posted 151 combined tackles (106 solo), 7 passes defended, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles and 8 interceptions.
Minnesota currently leads Nebraska, 3-0 at halftime as the Cornhuskers have failed to get anything going against the Gophers’ stingy defense.
Sims has completed 5 of his 9 passing attempts for 39 yards, still without a touchdown, but with 2 interceptions as he continues to show some struggles.
