It’s official, P.J. Fleck will be sticking around the Twin Cities for a few more years.

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents has approved the contract extension for Fleck, locking the head coach into the position through the 2026 season. Fleck’s new contract is a seven-year deal worth and he’ll see his salary increase from $3.6 million to $4.6 million.

The news was reported by Eric Vegoe of The Athletic.

Fleck’s buyout, should he decide to leave Minnesota within one year of the new contract, is a staggering $10 million. In Year 2, that number drops significantly to $4.5 million.

In addition to Fleck’s $1 million pay bump in 2020, another $1.05 million will be allocated for assistant coaches and staff at Minnesota. That’s a nice additional bargaining chip for Fleck and the Gophers.

Fleck will receive a $50,000 pay increase each year for the entirety of his contract, giving him a salary of $4.9 million by 2026.

The decision from the Board of Regents comes just a few days after Minnesota defeated Penn State to improve to 9-0 this season. The Golden Gophers are ranked No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings and head to Kinnick Stadium to play Iowa Saturday.
