Urban Meyer breaks down how Minnesota overcomes its biggest offensive weakness
At 8-0, Minnesota is one of the biggest surprises in the B1G this season. The Golden Gophers will put their undefeated record on the line Saturday against Penn State, who is also 8-0.
In the film room with Big Ten Network, former coach Urban Meyer was very complimentary of the Minnesota offensive weapons, but he also pointed out that the Golden Gophers aren’t the strongest up front on the offensive line. Meyer spent the rest of his film session with Gerry DiNardo breaking down how Minnesota deals with that Achilles heal.
“They (Minnesota and Indiana) don’t have the depth, but the players they do have are very, very good,” Meyer said. “Minnesota’s skill, I wouldn’t say it’s the best in the league, but it’s darn-near as good as anybody.”
To overcome its lack of depth on the offensive line, Meyer says Minnesota uses max-protection sets, passing plays without long, complicated reads, quick screens and a special blocking technique. The Golden Gophers have used these two near perfection on their way to a perfect record through 10 weeks.

Just go ahead and say it, @CoachUrbanMeyer! 😜
