The boats are rowing early at Minnesota.

On Minnesota’s second possession of the game, Gophers quarterback Conor Rhoda found Tyler Johnson deep down the field for what appeared to be a sizeable gain. But the crafty wide receiver was able to speed past Buffalo defenders and turn the pass into a scoring play.

That’s a 61-yard TD pass for Rhoda that put the Gophers ahead 7-0 early.

Heading into the game, P.J. Fleck said both Rhoda and Demry Croft would see a significant number of snaps in the season opener. With a pass like that though, Rhoda is proving he wants that No. 1 spot all to himself.
