WATCH: Minnesota fans unsuccessfully field punts at Gophers' spring game
When you’re watching it on television, fielding a punt seems like a pretty routine task. Players catch the ball and either take of running or call for a fair catch.
Simple enough, right?
Well, a few “lucky” Minnesota fans got the opportunity to find out just how “easy” this task is at the team’s spring game on Saturday. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go well.

You can still use the term “lucky fans” when they might’ve been slightly embarrassed on television, right?
As you can tell, locating the ball after a booming kick from a B1G punter is hard enough. Catching it is another challenge.
Oh well, it was still pretty cool that Fleck allowed a few fans to be a part of the team for a few minutes. And that guy in the overalls? Excellent spring game apparel.
There were plenty of things we learned from Minnesota’s spring game, the first under P.J. Fleck, but this might be one of the most important for fans. Television can be deceptive, fielding punts really isn’t that easy.
Keep that in mind the next time you get frustrated about a fair catch or a dropped ball.
