WATCH: Minnesota pulls off perfect trick play for two-point conversion in fourth quarter
Minnesota’s 2019 season-opener is turning out to be quite the football game.
And, a football game that may be closer than what the experts predicted.

South Dakota State, an FCS opponent, held a 21-20 lead in the fourth quarter against Minnesota. Not good, obviously.
However, the Golden Gophers did respond and score a TD with 5:39 left in the game. The score made it 26-21 and Minnesota owned a five-point lead. With less than six minutes remaining, P.J. Fleck decided he wanted to go for two.
This is likely the right call, seeing as how even if Minnesota missed the attempt, and South Dakota State scored, the Gophers would still only trail by two points.
However, Minnesota didn’t fail its two-point conversion.
Here’s a look at the trickery that paid off:

Not only did the running back take the snap here, but Minnesota essentially ran a reverse and then it turned into a throw which clearly worked as Tyler Johnson found QB Tanner Morgan in the end-zone.
Thanks to the success of that play, Minnesota led 28-21 late in the fourth quarter. The game is being aired on FS1.
