As reported earlier on Wednesday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers and coach P.J. Fleck agreed on a one-year contract extension. The deal ensures that Fleck will be the head coach of the Gophers through 2023.

Since the extension was announced early Wednesday morning, reporters asked Fleck about move and this was his comments on it:

The extension still needs approval from the Board of Trustees.

Fleck and Minnesota agreed to a five-year deal worth $18 million in January, with an annual salary starting at $3.5 million, according to the Pioneer Press. Initially, he was set to receive a pay bump of $50,000 each season through 2021-22. He will now receive that same pay raise through 2022-2023.

Currently, the Gophers are 5-6 in Fleck’s first season at Minnesota. Fleck and the Gophers host undefeated Wisconsin in the final week of the regular season.
