Saturday was an awful day for a lot of B1G teams. Minnesota, however, was one of the conferences few teams that enjoyed an afternoon of success rather than one of disappointment.

And yet, still, there were some Gophers who weren’t satisfied with a 26-3 win over Miami (OH) on Saturday.

Following Minnesota’s win, which improved the team’s record to 3-0 before entering B1G play next week, head coach P.J. Fleck said he walked into the locker room and saw some heads that were down in the locker room. It wasn’t a typical sight after a three-touchdown victory.

But that attitude, and that desire to play even better, is why Fleck knows the Gophers are a special group this season.

“Winning is hard. Period. There are a lot of people in our league today who did not win,” Fleck said. “And when you know team comes in, after winning by 23 points, and they have a little disappointment in them, you know you have a special group of people.”

Minnesota was one of the six B1G teams to win on Saturday as the league finished the day 6-7. The Gophers ended non-conference play with a perfect 3-0 record, but clearly the players wanted a little more.

The Gophers will have a bigger challenge next week, heading to Maryland for their first road game and conference matchup of the season.
