Bowl eligibility has become somewhat of the measuring stick of success for a first-year head coach in college football. But for P.J. Fleck, that’s not the focal point of his inaugural season at Minnesota.

During his press conference on Tuesday, Fleck was asked about Minnesota’s chances at bowl eligibility after dropping its first three games of the B1G season. And while he would love to get his team to the postseason, Fleck made it clear that hitting that six-win mark isn’t his primary concern right now.

The video below comes from Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press.

While Minnesota still has six games to play and needs just three wins to reach bowl eligibility, the opportunity for the Gophers to reach that mark has somewhat withered after losing to Maryland and Purdue in the first two weeks of conference play.

Minnesota is currently 3-3 on the season and 0-3 in the B1G.

With Michigan and Wisconsin still remaining on the schedule, the margin of error for the Gophers to try to hit that six-win mark is razor thin. But again, Fleck isn’t focusing all his attention on the number of wins his team has, but rather wants to see improvement on a week-to-week basis.

Saturday, Minnesota hosts Illinois at 3:30 p.m. ET.
