It would be easy for Zack Annexstad to shut things down and mope. A challenger for the starting quarterback job at Minnesota, the true sophomore suffered a significant foot injury in fall camp, all but ending his second season in Minneapolis.

But the young quarterback has continued to be involved in practice and provide a presence he feels his team needs. During BTN’s Bus Tour, Annexstad, who’s foot is in a cast right now, was seen still very much involved with the Gophers’ practice.

That’s the kind of attitude P.J. Fleck wants from his players, even when things aren’t going their way.

With Annexstad sidelined, Tanner Morgan will (likely) be the starter for Minnesota this season. The Gophers open up the season on Thursday, Aug. 29 against South Dakota State.

Last year, Annexstad started in the first seven games as a true freshman walk-on. He threw for 1,277 yards and nine touchdowns with just seven interceptions.
