Payton was a very important recruit for Nebraska. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he’s a 4-star prospect and the No. 22 outside linebacker in the class of 2021. He’s also No. 328 overall player, per the same service.
He originally committed to Nebraska on May 1 earlier this year.
Payton was one of just four 4-star prospects in Nebraska’s 2021 recruiting class, per 247.. Tight end Thomas Fidone, offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka and linebacker Randolph Kpai are the others.
Nebraska is looking for its second win of the season vs. Purdue. The Huskers had a 17-0 lead at the time of Payton’s announcement.
