Former Nebraska star Ameer Abdullah placed on injured reserve
Just when it looked like he was ready to turn the corner in his second season, Ameer Abdullah suffered a frustrating setback.
Abdullah left Sunday’s game against the Titans with a foot injury after an impressive 24-yard run and didn’t return. The initial fear that the injury was serious was confirmed on Wednesday.
The former Nebraska I-back was placed on injured reserve, making him inactive for the next eight weeks. Abdullah won’t take up a spot on the Lions’ 53-man roster until he’s able to return.

Abdullah could miss the entire season with the injury, depending on what the Lions decide.
The former All-B1G back was selected in the second round by the Lions in the 2015 NFL draft.
After spending his rookie season as the change-of-pace back to Joique Bell, Abdullah was at the top of the depth chart in 2016. In less than two games, Abdullah racked up 158 yards from scrimmage on 23 touches.
