Nebraska got through the first week of the 2019 college football season with a win over South Alabama.

It wasn’t all pretty, though. The offense actually struggled a bit in the 35-21 win, as there were three separate returns for TDs by Nebraska’s defense and special teams in the game.

At quarterback, star sophomore Adrian Martinez finished 13-of-22 for 178 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. That’s not what you’re looking for out of your QB who is a supposed Heisman Trophy candidate. And, Martinez knows that.

On Monday, he talked about how his teammates deserve better from him:

“It starts with me,” Martinez said. “I didn’t do my job well enough, and that’s on me. I’ve got to hold people to that standard, and I’ll take that responsibility. My teammates deserve better out of me.”

We’ll see if Nebraska can not only duplicate a win in Week 2 against Colorado on the road, but get a better offensive performance altogether as well.
