Adrian Martinez rips off monster TD run, cuts into Illinois’ lead during 3rd quarter

Illinois was just about ready to run away with Saturday’s season opener before Adrian Martinez pulled off a huge touchdown run.

Late in the third quarter, the Illini were piling on and making head coach Bret Bielema look great in his Illinois debut. Illinois capped an impressive scoring stretch with two touchdowns in the third quarter to make it 30-9 in Champaign.

That is when Martinez came up with a clutch run that produced a one-play touchdown drive. After dropping back to pass, Illinois failed to contain Martinez as he burst into the open and down the field.

Once he found green grass, no one was able to slow down Martinez. He raced 75 yards for the score to make it 30-16 and keep Nebraska’s hopes of a comeback alive.

That is a breath of fresh air for Martinez and the Huskers after his rough first half. Can he keep the comeback rolling along?
