It was a rough go for Adrian Martinez and Nebraska in Week 0 against Illinois.
Martinez completed 16 of his 32 passes for 232 yards and broke away for a 75-yard touchdown run, but was sacked five times and lost a fumble in the Cornhuskers’ 30-22 loss to the Illini.
Most of the criticism went toward Nebraska coach Scott Frost, but Martinez acknowledged that he and the rest of the team have to be better going forward. He also had a message for Cornhusker fans who were frustrated after the game: “Stick with us.”
Here’s some of what he had to say.

A pretty heartfelt delivery from Adrian Martinez when asked what message he wants to convey to Nebraska fans who lost some faith after the opener: “We’re giving it everything we’ve got… There’s a lot of investment on our end.”

Adrian Martinez said he had some good moments, but also moments where he needed to stand and deliver and didn't make the throw. "Look back at it and got to improve. I owe the guys better, the coaches better," and plans to do that this week.
