Nebraska’s 2019 recruiting class got a little bit stronger on Monday afternoon, adding an athletic safety to the mix.

On Monday, 3-star safety Quinton Newsome gave his verbal commitment to Scott Frost and the Huskers. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is a Suwanee, Georgia native and was ranked as a top 50 safety in the 2019 class.

He chose Nebraska over Auburn and Georgia, who were the other two programs in his top three.

Newsome made his announcement via Twitter.

“I am blessed to say that I have made my final decision and I will continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Nebraska! Go Big Red!” Newsome tweeted.

Newsome had offers from three B1G programs: Nebraska, Michigan State and Minnesota. In total, he had 20 offers, including Alabama, Stanford, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Newsome becomes the 16th commit of the 2019 class for the Huskers, which ranks 24th nationally and fourth in the B1G.
