Bill Busch liked what he saw from his Nebraska defense in the past two games. The defensive coordinator heaped praise on his unit following their 14-13 win over Rutgers.

According to Busch, the big second-half performances against Indiana and Rutgers are “all on the kids.” He praised the Huskers for stepping up and “being real dudes.”

Give credit where credit is due. The Nebraska defense is much better after giving up back-to-back 40-plus point outputs to Georgia Southern and Oklahoma.

The defense kept Rutgers out of the endzone in the second half while holding the Scarlet Knights to a 4-16 mark on 3rd downs. The Huskers also held Indiana to a 2-15 spot on the crucial down.

Nebraska is now back even at 3-3 after a horrendous stretch in which they lost three of their first four games. The Huskers’ start ultimately led to the firing of head coach Scott Frost last month and DC Erik Chinander shortly after.

Nebraska also is still right in the mix in the B1G West standings. The team heads to Purdue this week before returning home to face Illinois.

Could this be an about-face for the Huskers? It would be a remarkable turnaround and one of the stories of the season if they continue to improve.
