Nebraska AD Bill Moos made waves Friday with the sudden announcement of his retirement, effective June 30.

Reports began to swirl in the morning that Moos was going to be out as AD. Those reports were quickly confirmed when Moos announced his retirement which will happen next Wednesday.

Though Moos is indeed retiring, comments made during an interview with the Omaha World-Herald makes the picture less clear. According to Sam McKewon, Moos indicated that he had mulled retirement for months. However, he also said that he was “informed” last week that he would retire almost immediately:

Moos said he was informed last week that he’d retire almost immediately.

“Apparently this was the best time,” Moos said. He wouldn’t say who told him he’d be retiring.

“Not going there,” said Moos.

Beyond that explanation, Moos did say that he is proud of his work put in with the Huskers. He also said he believes his job is done:

“I could sit around for 18 months and just enjoy the fruits of my labor, but really my business is finished,” Moos said. “I’m proud of it.”

Now, Nebraska will try and find the right AD to fill the void as Huskers football enters Year 4 under Scott Frost. With a 12-20 record in three seasons and a new boss incoming, it is likely a crucial year for Frost and the Huskers to show some growth.
