Billy Kemp is entering his first fall camp as a member of Matt Rhule’s program at Nebraska. Despite a number of new faces for the Huskers, it hasn’t dampened Kemp’s outlook for the offense this fall.
Following Monday’s practice, Kemp met with the media to discuss the opening of training camp. He included that the Huskers have the potential to produce one of the best offenses in the country.
“I feel like we can be the best offense in the nation,” said Kemp per Avarie Howard. “We have the weapons, we have the players, we have the coaches.”
While Nebraska does have some solid pieces in place, a number of the faces are new with Rhule and his staff trying to overhaul the roster ahead of his first season with the team. Nebraska’s starting quarterback from last season (Casey Thompson) and the team’s leading receiver (Trey Palmer) are no longer around.
Fortunately, Kemp spoke highly about former Georgia Tech QB Jeff Sims, the player likely to start under center to begin the season. Kemp says the duo has already developed a relationship throughout the offseason work.
“We just put the work in to get to where we need to be. If we weren’t there the first day, we were working to get closer to it the second day, the third day the fourth day,” said Kemp. “That’s just been my process, just working together and knowing we have to attack in front of this season.”
“It just comes from the way we both work.”

Last season, Nebraska went 4-8 during the midseason firing of Scott Frost and the interim stretch led by Mickey Joseph. The Huskers also had one of the worst offenses in the country while averaging 22.6 points per game.
Can a group of new faces help turn things around in 2023?
