The search for the new head coach at Nebraska is full steam ahead, but current QB Casey Thompson would love it if interim head coach Mickey Joseph could stick around.

Thompson went on at length about how much he liked Joseph and his demeanor in a press conference on Tuesday.

“What I like about him is, when you walk in the building, whether you’re a player or coach, everything you do is going to be evaluated,” Thompson said, according to Jimmy Watkins of the Omaha World-Herald. “Everybody on staff has to do their job and he holds everybody accountable.”

Thompson continued.

If a player misses a meal, a workout or a class, or even if they’re late to one, “There’s punishment,” Thompson said. “There’s consequences.”

Thompson expressed that whatever happens next season, he would like Joseph to be a part of the Nebraska coaching staff.

“No matter what happens next year, Mickey Joseph will always have my respect. I want him to be around, for sure.”

Watkins notes that Thompson did not specify in what role he’d like Joseph to be with the Huskers.
