Thompson’s father, Charles, said that he spoke to Joseph about coming to the school before he talked to former head coach Scott Frost. Joseph was heavily involved in recruiting the quarterback to Nebraska.
Thompson was a coveted transfer recruit for several schools and Nebraska had to appeal to Thompson. In his final season at Texas, Thompson passed for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. In 2021, Thompson led the Big 12 in passing touchdowns. Joseph worked hard to land Thompson in the transfer portal.
For Joseph, he started his time at Nebraska in a great way by getting Thompson. Joseph was hired by Nebraska after the 2021 season as an associate head coach and a wide receivers coach. He previously spent 5 seasons at LSU as a wide receivers coach and an associate head coach.
At LSU, Joseph helped develop one of the best wide receiver rooms in college football history with Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. He hopes to have similar success at Nebraska as the interim head coach.
Nebraska will host Oklahoma on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
