Nebraska will look to get its first win of the season when they host Fordham. Nebraska is coming off a season-opening loss vs. B1G opponent Illinois.

Nebraska hasn’t had a winning season during Scott Frost’s first three seasons at the helm. The College GameDay crew offered its assessments of why Nebraska has been struggling.

Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t think this is for a lack of effort on Nebraska’s part.

“I don’t think anybody knows or they’d fix it. Scott Frost knows the DNA of the program better than anybody. I went back and looked,” Herbstreit said. “Frank Solich in his six years had an average record of 10-3. Bill Callahan in four years was 7-5. Bo Pelini, his average in seven years was 9-4. Mike Riley his average was 6-6 and Scott Frost’s average is at 4-7.”

Herbstreit cites the offensive strategy as a factor in the woes.

“To me, the offense that they’re trying to run, this system that they’re trying to run, worked at UCF. And I know it’s modern college football in 2021, but it’s not what Scott grew up in. It’s not the DNA. It’s not what Frank Solich ran,” Herbstreit said. “And I know the game has changed and you can’t get under center and run option football. But what they’re doing right now and the mistakes they’re making, that’s the thing. It’s the style of football and the mistakes that they continue to make.

Rece Davis believes Nebraska will have a reprieve for the next couple weeks before the debating ramps back up when they face Oklahoma.

“Trust me, we’re going to have this conversation again in two weeks because they play Oklahoma. They play Fordham today, they play Buffalo (next week), should win both of those games,” Davis said. “But if they get beat, what 70-7 by Oklahoma? We’re going to have this conversation again in two weeks.”

Nebraska-Fordham is slated today for a noon EST kickoff and will be televised on the BTN.
