Contract details of new Nebraska RB coach Bryan Applewhite revealed, per report
Nebraska made several changes to its coaching staff in the wake of yet another disappointing season in Lincoln. One of those changes saw running backs coach Ryan Held fired after 4 seasons at his alma mater.
To fill the absence, Scott Frost on Jan. 12 announced the hiring of Bryan Applewhite, who was most recently at TCU for a pair of seasons but was not retained by Sonny Dykes. Applewhite coached the Horned Frogs to the nation’s 30th-ranked rushing offense in 2021 after they finished 20th a year prior.
We now know how much Applewhite will make as a member of the Cornhuskers staff. According to the Omaha World-Herald’s Sam McKewon, the deal is for 2 years at $325,000 per year.
As McKeown notes, though, Held’s salary was $400,000 prior to his dismissal. Of course, Frost and his staff are facing massive pressure to turn the program around as he heads into his 5th season: the Huskers have finished no higher than 5th in the B1G West and have yet to post a winning season since Frost’s arrival.
