DeShon Singleton confirms return to Nebraska for 2025 season
DeShon Singleton originally appeared to be out of eligibility in the 2024 season. But after another change to NCAA rules, the veteran safety is returning to Nebraska for one more year in 2025.
A 3-year contributor for the Cornhuskers, Singleton began his career in 2021 at Hutchinson CC in Kansas at the JUCO ranks. Late in 2024, the NCAA issued a blanket waiver to athletes who attended a non-NCAA school to remain eligible if they would have exhausted their eligibility in the 2024 season.
Instead of heading to the NFL, Singleton confirmed on Instagram that he’s coming back to Nebraska for 2025 with a simple message. Here is DeShon Singleton’s post:

After serving as a special teams contributor in 2022, Singleton opened the 2023 season as a starting safety before sustaining a season-ending injury vs. Michigan. That injury came in the 5th game of the year, meaning Singleton was ineligible for a redshirt after crossing the 4-game threshold.
This past season, Singleton started all 13 games and was the team’s 2nd-leading tackler with 71. Singleton also had his first interception with the Huskers in the win over Wisconsin and recorded 3 pass breakups, including 1 in the bowl victory.
Singleton set a career-high with 10 total tackles in the loss to Ohio State. He followed up that performance with 8 solo tackles against UCLA, another unfortunate loss, but came up big in the bowl-clinching win over the Badgers.
With Nebraska already losing some key pieces from an important defense, getting a veteran starter like Singleton back in the lineup should not be overstated.
