After calling Nebraska’s embarrassing 56-14 blowout loss to Ohio State, defensive coordinator Bob Diaco called the Blackshirts performance “miserable.” The defense allowed eight straight touchdowns and 633 total yards.

During his Tuesday press conference, Diaco said his players still have room to grow, but that they’re starting to get a better understanding of his system. He expects the defense to show signs of improvement the remainder of the season.

Here’s a lengthy comment he made regarding the defense’s performance against Ohio State:

Known as of the the top defensive minds in the country, Diaco is the highest paid assistant coach in Nebraska history. He believes Nebraska’s defense is capable of being one of the nation’s best over time, despite allowing 395 yards and 30.9 points per game.
