Emmett Johnson is returning for at least another season in Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers running back, who totaled 523 yards and a touchdown on 102 carries and 35 catches for 262 yards plus a score in 2024, announced on Thursday that he would enter the transfer portal.

On Sunday, though, Johnson changed his mind, posting a video on X stating that he would return to Lincoln in 2025. Here’s the video:

Johnson, a 3-star recruit in 2022, redshirted as a true freshman after playing in 4 games. He remained with the program after the hiring of Matt Rhule ahead of the 2023 season, taking 90 carries for 411 yards and 2 touchdowns.

He improved on his numbers in 2024, enjoying a career day against Wisconsin on Nov. 23 as he posted 113 yards on 16 carries while making 6 catches for 85 yards. The Huskers beat the Badgers in that one, 44-25, becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 2016.

With the Huskers looking to take the next step in 2025, they’ll now have Johnson back in the fold, as he should play a much larger role in the offensive backfield alongside leading rusher Dante Dowdell.

Meanwhile, the Huskers will head to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to face Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28, the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
