ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Friday that Nebraska is close to making former Carolina Panthers and Baylor HC Matt Rhule its next head coach. However, there are some things that need to be ironed out.
Rhule was let go of by the Panthers in October. He is still owed money by the organization as well. Thamel reported that Carolina still has to pay Rhule nearly $34 million. However, the deal is still on track to happen, just not until after the Iowa game.
Sources told Thamel that “It looks like it’s going to happen.”
But a deal is on track to be done in the upcoming days. Don’t expect anything formal to happen until after the Iowa game today. “It looks like it’s going to happen.”

If these rumors are true, Mickey Joseph’s tenure is going to be coming to an end in the coming days. Joseph has a 2-6 record since taking over for former HC Scott Frost after losing to Georgia Southern in Week 2.
While Rhule didn’t have a lot of success in the NFL, he coached Baylor to an 11-3 record in his final season in Waco. Stay tuned for any more updates about the Rhule-Nebraska situation.
