ESPN's FPI predicts outcome of Nebraska's Week 3 meeting with NIU
ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of games during the season. One of those games was Northern Illinois-Nebraska in Week 3.
Matt Rhule is still looking for his first win of his Nebraska tenure after an 0-2 start. The Huskers lost on a game-winning field goal to Minnesota in the season opener. Deion Sanders welcomed Nebraska to Boulder in Week 2, but the Huskers didn’t leave with a victory.
ESPN’s FPI believes that Rhule will finally earn a win in Week 3. It is favoring Nebraska and gives Rhule’s team a 75.8% chance of winning on Saturday. The Huskies were given a 24.2% chance to pull off the upset.
One pattern of Rhule’s tenure is the number of turnovers that Jeff Sims has had a part in. It hasn’t been an easy transition for the Georgia Tech transfer. He’s had problems holding onto the football and has 4 interceptions through two games.
One thing that Sims has been able to do is make plays with his scrambling ability. Sims leads Nebraska with 159 yards rushing and also has 1 touchdown on the ground.
Nebraska has a 3-1 lead in the all-time series with Northern Illinois. The last meeting in 2019 ended 44-8 in favor of the Huskers.
The Huskers and Huskies meet at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
