ESPN's FPI updates Nebraska's odds of reaching a bowl game entering Week 9
ESPN’s FPI is back with more projections for the remaining portion of the regular season. That includes Nebraska trying to get to a bowl game over the final 5 games of the season.
After dropping the first 2 games of the season, the Huskers have rallied with 4 wins in the last 5 games. Now, Matt Rhule’s squad is 4-3 and looking for 2 more wins to get to bowl eligibility.
According to the FPI, Nebraska has a solid shot to get there, giving the Huskers a 63.1% chance of winning 6 games this season. The current projected win-loss record for Nebraska is 5.9-6.1, so the Huskers are absolutely teetering on the edge of the postseason.
Looking at the rest of the schedule, Nebraska has some very winnable games moving forward, but nothing is a gimme at this point of the season. The Huskers will be favored at home vs. Purdue but the rest of the slate includes a pair of road games and a few tough opponents.
Here is the remaining schedule with FPI win probabilities included:
- vs. Purdue — 52%
- at Michigan State — 48.3%
- vs. Maryland — 31.9%
- at Wisconsin — 21.7%
- vs. Iowa — 36.4%
At the end of the day, the main goal for Nebraska is getting better in Rhule’s first season with the program, but a bowl game is a tantalizing goal that is realistically within reach. Getting to a bowl would also give the Huskers a chance to get an extra month of practice under their belts heading into 2024.
