For Montana State, the transfer portal worked to their advantage over the summer as the Bobcats added four former FBS players to the roster, among them former Nebraska defensive end David Alston.
After redshirting as a freshman, Alston didn’t see any on-field action during 2019 and 2020 and entered the transfer portal in an effort to find more opportunities to play. A former 3-star recruit from St. Paul, Minnesota, Alston completed his degree at Nebraska prior to his transfer to MSU.
It’s expected that the 6-foot-4, 241 defensive end will move to outside linebacker for the Bobcats, giving them more depth as they are moving from a four-linemen front.
Montana State head coach Brent Vigen welcomed the graduate student to the program, and felt the move was good for both sides.
“We thought it would be a really good opportunity to continue to enhance his football career,” Vigen said.
