A former Nebraska walk-on offensive lineman will be continuing his college football career at the FCS level.

Former Husker walk-on Xavier Trevino announced over the weekend that he will be transferring to North Dakota to continue his football career. He was one of three Nebraska walk-on players who decided to enter their names in the NCAA transfer portal earlier this spring.

Trevino will be on scholarship at North Dakota, which means he will be immediately eligible to play during the 2020 season.

“Leaving after only a semester was never planned, but I have to do what’s best for myself and most importantly my family,” Trevino wrote. “Being raised in Lincoln, you know how special Nebraska football is here.  It was a blessing just getting a semester here.

“With that being said, I have found a new home that I’m going to represent day in and day out. … I can’t wait to get up to my new home in Grand Forks and get to work with my new family.”

North Dakota has finished four of the last five seasons with a winning record. Last year, the Fighting Hawks finished the season 7-5.
