Nebraska dropped to 0-1 on the season on Saturday afternoon as the Huskers lost 30-22 to Illinois.

The Illini, who were playing the first game of the Bret Bielema era, capitalized on several major Nebraska mistakes throughout the game.

Those miscues included a safety, a roughing-the-passer penalty that wiped away an interception, a quarterback sneak on first down late in the game and two missed extra points.

Illinois was up by 21 points mid-way through the third quarter. The Huskers were able to grind out a pair of touchdown drives, but the second drive took too long to develop and the third scoring drive never materialized.

The loss brings Scott Frost to an overall record of 12-21 in 3+ seasons as Nebraska’s head coach. The Huskers still have a tough nonconference slate remaining, including a matchup with Oklahoma.
