A former Nebraska wide receiver will be transfer to an FCS program to continue his football career.

On Friday night, Darien Chase announced via Twitter that he will be transferring to Portland State after spending one year at Nebraska. He decided to hit the transfer portal in February.

“Thank you to all the universities who gave me the opportunity to play at their program, I’ll forever be grateful,” Chase wrote on Twitter. “With that being said I’m proud to announce that I will be staying home and attending Portland State University.”

Chase chose to enter the NCAA transfer portal after announcing his struggle with mental health. He wanted to continue to play football but also thought staying closer to home was the best option at this time.

He is a native of Vancouver, Washington.

“I have lost a lot of family members and I have struggled with mental health and depression for the past 6 or 7 years,” Chase wrote on Twitter. “These events put me in a place I can never fall to again, and it is the best decision for me and my family for me to transfer closer to home.”

Chase appeared in four games for the Huskers last season, making one catch for 13 yards against Northern Illinois. He was a three-star prospect as a recruit.
