Former Nebraska WR Malachi Coleman announces transfer commitment to Minnesota
Former Nebraska WR Malachi Coleman has found a new home in the Big Ten.
Coleman, with the help of On3’s Hayes Fawcett, announced Tuesday that he is heading to Minnesota to continue his college football career.
Out of Lincoln (Nebraska) East High School, Coleman was a prized prospect in his original recruitment. On the 247Sports Composite, Coleman was rated 4-stars, the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska, No. 11 wide receiver and No. 67 recruit overall in the Class of 2023. He stayed home to play for Nebraska, signing with the Huskers over offers from 27 other programs, including Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, Mizzou, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, USC and others.
Coleman’s time playing for Matt Rhule’s program did not go as expected for the top player in the state.
In 2023, Coleman played in 11 games, making 6 starts. He logged 8 receptions for 139 yards with 1 touchdown over his true freshman season.
This past season, Coleman made just 1 appearance against Rutgers. He will be taking a redshirt to not count 2024 against his 4 full seasons of eligibility.
By redshirting, Coleman will again be considered a sophomore in 2025 with the Gophers and can play through the 2027 season. Minnesota hosts Nebraska on Oct. 18, 2025.
