Nebraska has landed a high-profile player from the NCAA transfer portal.

Hayes Fawcett is reporting that former Ohio State cornerback and 5-star talent Tyreke Johnson is transferring to Nebraska. He decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal following the 2020 season, leaving Columbus after three years.

It’s a huge boost for Nebraska’s defense, which already returns a majority of its starters from the 2020 campaign. Johnson has the potential to come in and make an immediate difference for the Huskers on that side of the football.

Johnson entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal in May. Over the course of three seasons in Columbus, he tallied 8 tackles and was part of three B1G title-winning squads.

As a high school prospect, Johnson was ranked as the No. 21 overall player in the 2021 class. He held offers from Clemson, Alabama and several other big-time programs, but picked Ohio State.

Johnson will still have three years of eligibility to use at Nebraska after redshirting in 2018 and having the additional year the NCAA granted to all fall student-athletes. The cornerback played in eight games for Ohio State in 2019.
