FOX’s Tom Rinaldi is a strong storyteller, and when he has a touching story to tell, well, it can be especially emotional.

On Saturday morning’s Big Noon Kickoff, Rinaldi told the story of Greg Sharpe, who has been the voice of Nebraska football since 2008 but revealed in April that he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Ever the fighter, Sharpe vowed to keep doing what he loves to do, for as long as he can do it, of course.

“When I’m around the stadium, I just feel better. I’m not gonna sit around and pout, that’s not a great way to end life,” said Sharpe.

After Sharpe broke the horrible news to Huskers fans back in the spring, he told his adoring listeners what his one singular goal was for this fall.

“I want to get this thing, whup its butt and get myself ready for football because I think we are going to have a fabulous, fabulous football season around here in the fall,” Sharpe said.

Sharpe wasn’t entirely wrong, of course. Nebraska is off to a solid 4-1 start to the season and bounced back last week from its only loss of the season with a big victory at Purdue. The Cornhuskers were looking to get to 5-1 on Saturday at home against Rutgers.
