Fred Hoiberg's son announces commitment to Nebraska

One of Fred Hoiberg’s sons will be staying in Lincoln to play college basketball for his father.

Thursday, Sam Hoiberg announced that he has committed to Nebraska and will be a walk-on. He attended Lincoln Pius X and made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“Excited to announce I’ll be continuing my education and basketball career at the University of Nebraska,” Sam Hoiberg wrote on Twitter. “Thanks to everyone who has helped get me to this point. Can’t wait (to) live my dream of playing for my dad.”

Sam Hoiberg’s announcement comes a day after Fred Hoiberg’s other son, Jack, announced he was entering the NCAA transfer portal after spending the last four years at Michigan State. He was a member of the program before the 2017-18 season as a walk-on and was awarded a scholarship before the 2020-21 campaign.

It’s unclear if Jack Hoiberg also plans to head to Nebraska.

Hoiberg just completed his second season as the head coach of the Huskers.
