Greg McElroy knows a thing or two about college football, and he has one B1G West program on the rise coming into 2022.
Despite the showing in 2021, McElroy picked Scott Frost’s Nebraska program as a team on the rise coming into 2022. McElroy openly admitted that some folks think he is crazy for the pick, but he likes the makeup of the Huskers coming into the season.
“A lot of people seem to think this is a bit of a reach for me, but I like them this year,” said McElroy during his Always College Football podcast. “Maybe I’m crazy and I will certainly eat crow if they don’t take the next step.
“I want to talk about the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I think this team’s poised after what they did last year to make a significant step forward. I know 3-9 is 3-9 and you are what your record says you are but this team felt better than 3-9.
“Vegas already has Nebraska’s win total at 7.5…Vegas thinks they’re going to be pretty good so I am bullish on Nebraska.”
Among other things, McElroy likes the addition of Mark Whipple to lead the offense and expects that group to throw the ball a bit more. McElroy also believes Whipple has the pieces and playcalling ability to keep the offensive line and QB Casey Thompson out of tough situations.
