Greg McElroy is gearing up for Week 2, tackling a number of topics on “Always College Football.” He included a special segment with an early preview of the highly-anticipated Nebraska vs. Colorado matchup in Boulder.
While McElroy noted he’s going to have a more complete breakdown to come, he started with some questions related to Nebraska. He’s particularly curious to see if the Huskers have what it takes to try and neutralize Colorado’s host of athletes.
“Initial thoughts: Can Nebraska neutralize the athleticism that Colorado has on both sides of the ball? We know Colorado has excellent play at wide receiver. We know they have tremendous speed at RB, we know they’re gonna operate with a really, really up-tempo attack that will spread you horizontally,” said McElroy. “But if there’s one thing I really learned: Their catch-and-run but also Shedeur Sanders’ accuracy down the field is something that really stood out to me.”
McElroy does expect Nebraska to be better equipped than TCU in the trenches, but is that enough to neutralize the Buffs?
“We’re still at least as of Week 2 unsure how Colorado is built on the interior,” McElroy explained. “I don’t think TCU really committed to the run game. I don’t think TCU has a great offensive line. I don’t think TCU is very good on the defensive front. So I’m really curious. I do think Nebraska is better than TCU in all 3 of those areas. Will they be able to neutralize some of the issues and create havoc on the offensive front?”
